The hammerhead design of the Marshall has some similarities with the Federation CL (light cruiser, Texas class) from the Star Fleet Battles wargame. In service from 2157 to 2207, ships of this class include the U.S.S. In fact one proposed successor design turned out to be inferior to the Marshall. The design was so successful that it remained in service for fifty years, presumably continuing in production for at least some of that time. It entered service during the Romulan War and hence would have been a Terran design that was later brought into Starfleet services (presumably being assigned registries, very low registries, at that time). This class appears in the Space Flight Chronology book and is mentioned in FASA.
